In another all-around team effort, Rainier Beach took a huge 92-50 victory over Bishop Blanchet on January 28. This was the final game of a four-game road streak which Beach had dominated thus far.
The Vikings got off to their typically strong start, winning the first quarter 21-13. In the following two periods, Beach marked over 27 and 28 points respectively, while holding the Braves to just 10 points in both quarters.
Rainier Beach slowed things down in the final quarter, with a 17-16 going in Blanchet’s favor. By that time, the Vikings’ comfortable lead put any hopes of a comeback out of reach.
The impressive part about Rainier’s game is the depth of their offensive power. Five players scored in the double digits, led by Shaqquan Aaron’s 25 points. Djuan Piper followed up with 17 points of his own and Dejounte Murray added on another 15.
Defensively, Rainier Beach guarded well, prohibiting any offensive surges from the Braves. Matt Welch was the only player for Blanchet who figured out an effective way to score, marking 19 points. Rainier Beach held everyone else to eight points or less.
After four consecutive road games, Rainier Beach hosts Bainbridge on January 31.
With only two more regular season games remaining, the Vikings want to prove that they are contenders for the No. 1 rank in the nation. Currently, Rainier Beach is undefeated at 18-0, sitting at No. 4 in the DigitalSports National Basketball Rankings.
